Why Can’t I Link My Chase Bank Account to KrillPay via Plaid?

Modified on Mon, 6 Oct at 4:34 PM

Overview

Some KrillPay users have reported issues linking their Chase Bank accounts through Plaid, our secure third-party platform that connects your bank account to KrillPay.

After investigating with our partners, we’ve learned that this issue is specific to certain types of Chase accounts. It does not affect all Chase customers.

What’s Causing the Issue?

Chase Bank restricts online connections for certain account types. These accounts are not eligible for third-party app connections through Plaid or similar financial data services.

According to Chase representatives, only accounts that support “online app connections” can be linked to external apps like KrillPay. Accounts that don’t qualify will need to be upgraded to a supported account type before they can be connected.

Who Is Affected?

You may experience this issue if:

  • You have a basic, limited-access, or non-digital Chase account that does not support third-party integrations.
  • You have a business, savings, or special-purpose account with restricted online connectivity.
  • Your account has enhanced privacy or data-sharing restrictions.

What You Can Do

If you’re unable to link your Chase account to KrillPay:

  1. Contact Chase support and ask if your account type supports “online app connections.”
  2. If not, request an upgrade to an account that does. Chase can guide you on which account types qualify.
  3. Once upgraded, try linking again through Plaid within the KrillPay app.
  4. Alternatively, link a different supported bank account (such as Wells Fargo, Bank of America, or Truist) to continue using KrillPay seamlessly.

What KrillPay Is Doing

KrillPay is aware of this situation and monitoring updates from Plaid and Chase. While this limitation is outside our control, we’re exploring alternative connection options to ensure all users—including Chase customers—can link their accounts smoothly in the future.
